- 7 Questions to Ask When Hiring a Caregiver
Finding an in-home caregiver is an important part of caring for seniors and loved ones. Talent Care Services Group, LLC specializes in providing trained and qualified in-home caregivers to families across the State. There are many factors and questions to ask someone looking to provide in-home care. The 7 we feel are the most important are listed below.
If you choose in-home care, it’s important to ask several questions to ensure your loved one remains safe, healthy, and content:
- What arrangements are in place if you or the caregiver becomes sick or unavailable?
- Do you handle federal and state taxes, Social Security (FICA), and unemployment insurance to prevent our family from being liable?
- Can you confirm that both you and your caregivers are legally authorized to work in the U.S.?
- In the event that you or the caregiver are injured at a client’s home, who is responsible? (Note: many homeowners’ insurance policies do not cover injuries to “domestic employees.”)
- Do you conduct criminal background checks, state abuse registry checks, and verify references from previous employment?
- Are you bonded or insured in case a client is injured or there is theft?
- How do you ensure and document that services were completed as agreed?
